Eco Club At Crackley Hall

06 Dec

As part of the school’s sustainability activities, this year, Crackley Hall School has introduced an Eco Club.

The club was initially offered just to Key Stage 1 children and has provided like-minded pupils the opportunity to talk, learn about and get involved with eco activities.

Mrs Van Zyl and her team of young eco warriors have been meeting after school every Tuesday and club members have worked on lots of different eco projects. They have built hedgehog houses and bird feeders to encourage and sustain wildlife, undertaken local litter picking to improve their environment and even made fruity kebabs while thinking about food miles and sustainable production. In the next few weeks they will be working on being a bit more eco-friendly over Christmas. They will be making eco decorations for the Christmas tree and potato printing their own recycled wrapping paper.

It's been a small start but now the club is up and running Mrs Van Zyl is looking at ways to expand it, to engage with and include the older years. Our hope is that Eco Club will help empower our pupils to explore environmental concepts beyond the confines of the curriculum.
