The Princethorpe Foundation Launches New Curriculum for Life

02 Jun

The Princethorpe Foundation has launched a new overarching Curriculum for Life. This initiative has been carefully planned to support pupils at all three of the Foundation’s schools, Crackley Hall School, Crescent School and Princethorpe College, from Reception right up to Upper Sixth.

The Curriculum for Life comprises five key strands which build on the traditional academic curriculum - character development, social and cultural issues, personal health and wellbeing, learning skills and digital literacy and careers and futures planning. These all have an essential part to play in equipping young people for life in the 21st century and are woven through school life to complement and add extra value to the pupils’ studies.

Comments Foundation Principal, Ed Hester, “Our Curriculum for Life is a natural extension of the Foundation for Life that we aim to give all our pupils. Education is of course about much more than academics and exam success, society needs the adults of tomorrow to be adaptable, resilient, well-informed and resourceful. This initiative aims to equip our pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to face the future with confidence and make a positive difference in the world.”

He continues, “By sharing best practice across the Foundation, adapting the strands appropriately for each key stage, and linking our approach between the prep, senior and Sixth Form stages, our pupils will benefit in many ways. We hope that Curriculum for Life will resonate with parents and pupils alike as it will bring real added value to a Princethorpe Foundation education.”

A variety of platforms are used to deliver the Curriculum for Life, including assemblies, PSHE and RSE lessons, tutor time, the co-curricular programme, transition, careers and other enrichment activities. Parents can view an overview of the Curriculum for Life here, to find out more and to support and reinforce the initiative at home.
